Sustainable Development
The Sustainable Development Goals take into account human responsibility for addressing environmental problems and risks resulting from development and industrialization. They aim to raise awareness of the interconnected environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainable development, while promoting the responsible management of natural resources in a way that protects the environment and meets the needs of current and future generations.
The Sustainable Development Goals, officially known as "Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," are a key component of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's vision and ambitions. Accordingly, the Municipality considers its role in sustainable development an integral part of its strategic pillars. It has launched several national development initiatives to contribute to achieving the targets and addressing related challenges.
Sustainable Development Goals
- 1- Achieving urban sustainability through spatial integration with national and local plans, managing development by leveraging competitive urban advantages, and developing policies, regulations, and standards.
- 2- Developing and ensuring comprehensive coverage of advanced smart infrastructure in line with urban development plans, improving the efficiency of project planning and construction, and enhancing the quality of operation and maintenance processes. These efforts contribute to achieving urban, environmental, and economic sustainability in the Hafar Al-Batin region, improving living standards, and taking smart city guiding principles into consideration.
- 3- Developing environmental sanitation operational programs and systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of cleaning operations by adopting leading global best practices, thereby increasing city residents' satisfaction in accordance with sustainable and smart city standards. In addition, Hafar Al-Batin Municipality aims to develop environmentally sustainable waste containers and implement the concept of three-way waste sorting at the source.
- 4- Improving the efficiency of the monitoring system by adopting an innovative and enhanced oversight approach, focusing on proactive monitoring, establishing clear standards and guidelines, ensuring they are easily communicated to citizens and companies, and introducing incentives and penalties to improve compliance levels in Hafar Al-Batin.
- 5- Contributing to increasing vegetation cover and green spaces, and designing and implementing various distinctive parks through modern designs that take social and environmental aspects and geographical characteristics into account. This includes establishing accessible parks distributed across the neighborhoods of Hafar Al-Batin.
- Preparing a guidance manual for environmental sustainability legislation, increasing transparency, and improving access to these regulations through the establishment of a dedicated electronic platform.
- Developing self-monitoring systems that enable beneficiaries of regulatory services to conduct self-assessments and identify their level of compliance.
- Reviewing proposed incentives and penalties to enhance compliance.
- Organizing regular awareness campaigns targeting the community to promote sound environmental concepts and practices.
- Developing a system to monitor and report littering from vehicles on roads through automated monitoring and community participation.
- Developing the central laboratories of Hafar Al-Batin Municipality to enhance health inspections of food establishments and public health, ensuring compliance with Saudi and international standard specifications, and governing laboratory sample results in accordance with approved regulatory procedures.
- 6- Developing pest and epidemic vector control operations by improving and enhancing public health pest control through the latest technologies and best practices.
- Insect control and the supply of smart traps and light traps across the entire city.
- Comprehensive surveys of public health pest breeding sites and taking the necessary measures to eliminate them.
- Raising community awareness of residents' responsibilities and communication channels to prevent breeding sites from forming inside homes.
- 7- Developing proactive measures for stray animals by improving health prevention plans to control the presence of stray animals within the city through modern methods and in partnership with the community and relevant authorities.
- Establishing and equipping a center for the shelter and care of stray animals.
- Launching community awareness campaigns on how to deal with stray animals.
- 8- Maintaining public safety and comfort, particularly by taking the necessary measures to prevent and extinguish fires, demolishing buildings at risk of collapse or their deteriorating parts, and establishing public shelters.
- 9- Improving and developing the service delivery system for micro-businesses (street vendors and mobile carts), with the aim of integrating them into the formal economy, ensuring the availability of support and enabling mechanisms for their operations, and reducing compliance challenges related to regulations and commercial quality standards.
- Increasing the number of business incubators and designated sales locations.
- Enabling the private and non-profit sectors to provide services.
- 10- Achieving digital enablement across essential service areas and service delivery channels by leveraging innovative technological tools that enhance service quality and efficiency. These tools enable beneficiaries to request services and access data and information transparently and clearly through technologies such as digital systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence. This also includes activating digital channels to collect and monitor beneficiaries' feedback.
